7-7-1: INTERNATIONAL FIRE CODE ADOPTED:
(A) The current approved edition of the International Fire Code as adopted by the State of
Idaho, is adopted as the official fire code of the City of Ammon.
(B) One (1) copy of the adopted International Fire Code, current Edition, shall be duly
certified and retained by the City Clerk
7-7-2: ESTABLISHMENT AND DUTIES OF BUREAU OF FIRE PREVENTION.
(A) The International Fire Code shall be enforced by the Division of Fire Prevention, in the
Fire Department of the City, which is hereby established and which shall be operated
under the supervision of the Chief of the Fire Department.
(B) The Fire Marshal shall be in charge of the Division of Fire Prevention shall be appointed
by the Mayor with confirmation of the City Council upon recommendation from the
Chief of the Fire Department on the basis of investigation to determine his qualifications.
(C) The Chief of the Fire Department may detail such members of the Fire Department as
inspectors from time to time as necessary. The Chief of the Fire Department shall
recommend to the Mayor the employment of technical inspectors who, when such
authorization is made, shall be selected through an investigation to determine their fitness
for the position. The examination shall be open to members and non-members of the Fire
Department, and appointments made after investigation shall be for an indefinite term.
7-7-3: DEFINITIONS: For the purpose of this ordinance, certain words and terms are defined as
follows:
CHIEF OF THE DIVISION OF FIRE PREVENTION: Wherever the words
“Chief of the division of Fire Prevention” are used in the International Fire Code, it shall
be held to mean the Fire Marshall for the City of Ammon.
CODE OFFICIAL: Wherever the words “Code Official” are used in the
International Fire Code, it shall be held to mean the Fire Chief, Fire Marshall or
other designated authority charged with the administration and enforcement of
the code.
CORPORATE COUNSEL: Wherever the term “Corporate or Corporation

Council” is used in the International Fire Code, it shall be held to mean the
Attorney for the City of Ammon.
JURISDICTION: Wherever the word “Jurisdiction” is used in the
International Fire Code, it shall be held to mean the City of Ammon, Idaho.
LIFE-SAFETY SYSTEM: Wherever the words Life-Safety System is used
in the International Fire Code, it shall be held to mean, Automatic fire-
extinguishing system, fire alarm and detection systems, fire pumps and related
equipment.
7-7-4: NEW MATERIALS, PROCESSES, OR OCCUPANCIES WHICH MAY REQUIRE
PERMITS: The Mayor, Chief, and Fire Marshall shall act as a committee to determine and
specify, after giving affected persons an opportunity to be heard, any new materials, processes, or
occupancies which shall require permits, in addition to those now enumerated in said code.
7-7-5: VIOLATIONS:
(A) Any person who shall violate any of the provisions of this code hereby adopted or fail to
comply therewith, or who shall violate or fail to comply with any order made there under,
or who shall build in violation of any detailed statement or specifications or plans
submitted and approved there under, or any certificate or permit issued there under, and
from which no appeal has been taken, or who shall fail to comply with such order as
affirmed or modified by the Mayor and City Council or by the court of competent
jurisdiction, within the time fixed herein, shall severally for each and every such violation
and noncompliance respectively, be guilty of a misdemeanor as provided for in section 1-
4-1 of this code. The imposition of one penalty for any violation shall not excuse the
violation or permit it to continue and all such persons shall be required to correct or
remedy such violations or defects within a reasonable time and when not otherwise
specified.
(B) The application of the above penalty shall not be held to prevent the enforced
removal of prohibited conditions.
7-7-6: FEES: Fees for building permits and services related to this chapter shall be established
by resolution of the City Council, which may be amended and modified from time to time by
resolution.
EXCEPTION: Offices or businesses operated by the State of Idaho or the Federal Government
shall be exempt from the fire inspection fee. Fire inspections shall continue to be provided by the
Fire Department.
