Vice-Chairman Stommel opened the public hearing which is
a request by GHG Investment to rezone from C-l to GC-l that
property lying on the north side of E. 17th Street and generally
located both north and east of Chambers Addition, to the north
of those residences known as 2965, 2975 and 2985 E. 17th Street,
with property belonging to David E. Benton, et al bordering it
on the east, and Anderson Lumber Co. property to the west.
Vice-Chairman Stommel asked for those wishing to testify
to stand and be sworn in. Those sworn in were: David Benton,
Richard Groberg, Joe Groberg and Kevin Hungate.
Richard Groberg explained to the commission the reason for
the rezone request was to allow RexStores Corporation to build
a wholesale distribution center which would be done in two
phases of nearly one hundred thousand (100,000) square feet and
one hundred seventeen thousand (117,000) square feet. The
retail store would be built with E. 17th Street frontage with
the distribution center behind the retail store. The business
consists of the sale/distribution of television sets and
audio/video appliances.
Kevin Hungate asked if the sale was complete. Mr. Groberg
stated there was an agreement.
.
The commission reviewed the plans for the site, which
included the building permit plans for the retail store. The
plans show a row of trees behind the Chambers Addition property
which will act as a buffer.
