9-7-1: DEFINITIONS: The following terms whenever used in this chapter shall
have the meaning ascribed below:
BICYCLE: Every vehicle propelled exclusively by human power
upon which a person or persons may ride having two
tandem wheels, and except scooters and similar devices.
Every motor vehicle having a seat or saddle for the use
MOTORCYCLE:
of the rider and designed to travel on not more than three
(3) wheels in contact with the ground, but excluding a
tractor.
Every motorcycle, motor scooter, or motorized bicycle
MOTOR-DRIVEN CYCLE:
having an engine with less than 150 cubic centimeters
displacement or with 5-brake horsepower or less.
SKATEBOARD: Every board or substance of any material with wheels
affixed to the underside designed to be ridden by a
person. For the purpose of this ordinance, the term
skateboard will include scooter, coaster, roller skates, or
roller blades.
Any vehicle propelled on skids, skis, tracks, or belts and
SNOWMOBILE:
propelled by motor power designed to be used upon
snow or ice.
TOY VEHICLE: Any skates, roller blades, sleds, coasters, wagons, or
other means by which a person is propelled on wheels,
skids, or slides by his own power.
EXCLUSIONS: Specifically excluded from the definitions herein are
wheelchairs, conveyances for the physically
handicapped and disabled, and juvenile toys of tricycles,
peddle cars, and push cars.

9-7-2: PEDESTRIAN RIGHT OF WAY: Pedestrians shall have the right of way
at all times upon all sidewalk areas, all sidewalk crossing areas, and all areas
designated as pedestrian areas within the City of Ammon. All persons riding bicycles,
motor-drive cycles, motorcycles, skateboards, and toy vehicles shall yield the right of
way to all pedestrians upon any sidewalk, a sidewalk crossing area, or area designated
for pedestrians.
9-7-3: UNLAWFUL TO RIDE BICYCLE ON SIDEWALK: Repealed 4-3-2014

9-7-4: UNLAWFUL TO RIDE MOTORCYCLE ON SIDEWALK: It shall be
unlawful for any person to ride a motor-drive cycle or vehicle or motorcycle upon any
sidewalk in the City of Ammon.
9-7-5: SNOWMOBILES: It shall be unlawful for any person to ride any snow-
mobile upon any public way, easement, or public property within the City of Ammon.
9-7-6: PROVISIONS FOR SKATEBOARDS: The riding of skateboards, roller
skates, roller blades, and other self-propelled toy vehicles shall be permitted upon side-
walks in the City of Ammon with the exception of certain designated sidewalks which the
Council may designate as not permitting such vehicles upon the sidewalks and which
are duly posted with such instruction.
9-7-7: VIOLATIONS: Any person who operates or is in control of any bicycle,
motor-driven cycle, motorcycle, skateboard, or toy vehicle upon a sidewalk, a highway, a
street, or upon public or private property open to public use in the City of Ammon
carelessly and heedlessly, or without due caution and circumspection, or in a manner so
as to endanger or be likely to endanger any other person or property, or who has been
inattentive, careless, or imprudent in light of the circumstances then existing, shall be
guilty of a violation of this ordinance.
9-7-8: PENALTY: Any violation of the provisions of this chapter shall be
deemed an infraction and shall be subject to penalties prescribed for such violations
under section 1-4-2 of this code, subject to the provisions of Idaho Code 18-111 and 18-
113A. Each day of the violation shall be considered a separate offense and shall be
punishable by separate fines as provided for herein.
